Bringing you fresh farm produce, in quality and quantity.

Livestock

Livestock is an integral part of the farm – both within our cattle breeding and free range chickens programs. The main cattle herd is around 330 head and is a Santa Gertrudi’s breed, originally from Texas and known for their high quality meat.

Vegetables

From planting flowers to planting vegetables, our passion and love for growing, has grown. With 12 ha’s dedicated to fresh produce, we nurture a range of nutritious food options.

Honey

We bee-lieve that the success of our harvest is greatly attributed to our bees. In a holistic farming approach, our produce is fringed by lavender bushes, naturally attracting bees which aid in pollinating our plants, resulting in natural goodness.

Blueberries

Investing in specialised varieties of produce is investing in our future. The range of blueberry variants we grow on our 19 ha plot contest to our investment in diversity and flavour.

Fish

In our holistic approach to produce, encompassing all natural elements from land to water, we launched a fish farming project of three ponds boasting 18000 Niloticus Bream (with capacity being expanded to 60000).

Flowers

Growing flowers is a multi-beneficial operation; feeding the soul, the bees as well as attracting favourable insects and improving biodiversity.

Crops

Honouring our ethos of farm to table, we grow 28 ha of seed maize for Seed Co. Op - providing seed maize for farmers to plant - keeping the food production line alive.

Passion Fruit

With fruit being one of our many passions, we have invested in 4 ha of land to grow granadillas, with the vision to expand to 8 ha; the vitamin C rich product being of great demand.

Livestock is an integral part of the farm – both within our cattle breeding and free range chickens programs. The main cattle herd is around 330 head and is a Santa Gertrudi’s breed, originally from Texas and known for their high quality meat. Our feedlots are at 140 head, varying from month to month.

We also farm free range broiler chickens and distribute around 2800 a week to local shops. In addition we have free range layers who produce delicious top quality eggs. Our ethos of sustainable farming ensures healthy, well cared for animals that we are proud to proclaim are hormone-free.

The Scimitar abattoir is operated by professional staff who uphold our strict hygiene standards, based on many years of experience. The majority of our cattle are sourced from our own feedlot, and sometimes from outside farmers – each inspected by the vet department on the day of slaughter, ensuring high quality, healthy meat. The abattoir is available for outside customers to book our services, each shift totalling 20 cattle, or 200 chickens.

We bee-lieve that the success of our harvest is greatly attributed to our bees. In a holistic farming approach, our produce is fringed by lavender bushes, naturally attracting bees which aid in pollinating our plants, resulting in natural goodness. The diverse landscape of vegetables, fruit and flowers affords an abundant and high-quality habitat for bees, ensuring and maintaining pollinator health, resulting in crop health. Our bee population will increase as our yields increase, sustaining a biodiverse and thriving ecosystem.

We have 35 occupied bee-hives around the farm, harvesting honey to sell locally. These hives are beneficial for pollination, as well as for our palettes, the honey being sold at The Orchard Farm Shop, Royal Zambezi Lodge and other local outlets. Not only is our honey delicious, but filled with antioxidants, boosting heart health, improving cholesterol and lowering blood pressure. Bee sweet to yourself and indulge in our homegrown honey!
